The 7301 is where HP's tank line becomes an office machine: a 250-sheet cassette, a 35-sheet feeder, automatic duplex, Ethernet, a 2.7-inch touchscreen and 15 ISO pages a minute in black. HP quotes up to 6,000 black and 8,000 colour pages of ink in the box, which for most households is several years of printing before the first bottle is bought. Against Epson's ET-4850 it is a hundred dollars cheaper with the same feature list and a slower engine; against Canon's G7020 it has a far better screen. The interface is the HP tax: the Smart app pushes accounts, offers, and an ink subscription with more energy than any competitor, and the printer wants to be online. The supplies themselves are not locked, which is the important part.
