Under eighty dollars, under six pounds, and cheaper to buy than a single set of replacement cartridges for most of the machines above it. That sentence contains both the appeal and the warning. The TS3520 uses a two-cartridge system — one black, one tricolour — which is the most expensive way per page that anyone sells ink, because when any one colour in the tricolour cartridge runs out the whole cartridge is dead. For a dorm room where a printer exists to produce a boarding pass twice a semester, that is fine and probably optimal. For a household printing weekly it is a trap, and one an EcoTank or a MegaTank costing three times as much undoes within a year. Canon rates the XL pair at 300 pages each, so a colour page costs about twenty-seven cents and the first pair of replacement cartridges costs more than the printer.
