Thirty pages a minute, automatic duplex, Ethernet and 1200 dpi output in a body barely larger than the M110we — this is the small laser for someone who prints real quantities of black-and-white paper. The duplex unit is the reason to step up from the 140-series: a forty-page double-sided report comes out as twenty sheets without touching the stack. It is print-only, which keeps it compact, and its 1200 dpi resolution is genuinely sharper than the 600 dpi budget lasers when it comes to small type and fine line work. The HP 134A and 134X cartridges are rated 1,100 and 2,400 pages; the one in the box is 1,150. The 134X works out near four and a half cents a page, which is mid-table for a mono laser and about a third more than a Brother TN830XL costs to run. HP+ terms apply.
